Lilly Endowment awards $50 million grant for Indiana State Parks

Lilly Endowment Inc. announced the approval of a $50 million grant to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for a variety of enhancements at Indiana State Parks. DNR will use the grant to make several improvements within Prophetstown State Park and to fund upgrades across the state parks system that will improve the experience for Hoosiers who visit these treasured places.

Drug arrest

SOUTH BEND — On Wednesday, Aug. 28, officers with the Marshall County Drug Task Force, assisted by the St. Joseph County Warrants Division, located and arrested 41-year-old Arthur Lawrence of Plymouth, while he hid from officers in a crawl space of a home in South Bend.


Lawrence was wanted for Dealing in Methamphetamine as a Level 3 Felony. He will be held at the Marshall County Jail with a $50,000 cash bond.

Suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Cocaine possession arrest

On Thursday,​ Aug. 29 at 8:14 p.m.,​ Marshall County Officer Wozniak initiated a traffic stop on a tan 2000 Pontiac Bonneville on US 31 in the area of 12th Road. ​


During the investigation,​ it was found that the driver and sole occupant,​ Toisan D. Fox, 48, of Wakarusa was operating the vehicle with a driving status of suspended with a prior. ​A Marshall K-9 officer was requested to the scene for the utilization of his partner,​ “Diesel” who alerted to the presence of drugs and a probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in officers locating a large amount of suspected cocaine packaged for distribution. ​
Fox was booked and processed for level 2 felony dealing cocaine or narcotic drug,​ level 4 felony possession of cocaine or narcotic drug, and driving while suspended with a prior.

Suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Possession of marijuana arrest

On Thursday,​ Aug. 29 at approximately 12:30 a.m.,​ Marshall County Officer Wozniak initiated a traffic stop in the area of US 31 and 18th Road for an equipment violation. ​


During the investigation,​ the odor of marijuana was detected and a probable cause search of the vehicle was completed. ​The officer located a large amount of suspected marijuana during the vehicle search. ​


The driver,​ Ryan M. Aschenbener, 33,​ and a passenger,​ Cory M. Salas, 41,​ both of the Indianapolis area,​ were taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail. They were both booked and processed for possession of marijuana.
